    CBD FAQs

    What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the naturally occurring cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. Recent cannabinoid research community indicates that CBD interacts directly with the CB1 receptor in the central and peripheral nervous system in ways that are therapeutically beneficial. It is an exciting time for CBD as little research had been done prior to the DEA taking CBD off schedule 1.

    What is THC?

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the cannabinoid found most in abundance in the cannabis plant. It reacts differently to CBD in the same CB1 receptor. It has a psychoactive effect, hence plant varieties that have been bred for recreational use are particularly high in THC. That is not to say that THC doesn’t have any therapeutic use. It has been found to be effective for reducing nausea and vomiting experienced by patients during chemotherapy, can slow down the progression of glaucoma and help reduce nerve pain.

Will I become addicted to CBD?

In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential. This has been recognized by the DEA and the reason we are seeing increased research and interest in the chemical compound.

What are the benefits of CBD?

CBD has been demonstrated as an effective treatment of epilepsy in several clinical trials, with one pure CBD product (Epidiolex®) currently in Phase III trials. There is also preliminary evidence that CBD may be a useful treatment for a number of other medical conditions.

    Does CBD have any interactions?

CBD is generally well tolerated with a good health profile. Reported adverse effects may be as a result of drug interactions between CBD and patients’ existing medications. Please consult with your physician before taking CBD.

CBD inhibits the cytochrome p450 enzyme which helps to metabolize many drugs. Compounds in grapefruit inhibit the same enzyme group which is why physicians advise patients not to eat grapefruit shortly before or after taking medication. The effect CBD may have by inhibiting the cytochrome p450 enzyme is it may increase or decrease the effects of other drugs. Please consult with your doctor before using CBD.

    What is Hemp extract?

Hemp extract is an oil derived from the stalks and seeds of the industrial hemp plant. This oil can be used for a variety of purposes, the most popular being consumed as a wellness supplement for the cannabinoids, phytocannabinoids, Cannabidiol (CBD) and more. Extracts sold through Relief Scout are processed using Co2 (air).

    What is homeostasis?

Homeostasis is “the tendency toward a relatively stable equilibrium, especially as maintained by physiological processes”. In the case of the human body, if you have achieved homeostasis, your body is in balance and you will experience optimal health. CBD has shown to play a role at encouraging the body to achieve and maintain homeostasis.

    What is the endocannabinoid system?

The endocannabinoid system is a biological system within the human body, just like the digestive or nervous system. The ECS's role is to maintain balance in the body by binding to cells throughout it. Certain receptors bind with different parts of the body (brain, thyroid, liver, heart, digestive tract, etc.) to help maintain proper functioning.
