CHRONIC Pain

chronicpainChronic pain is defined as pain lasting more than three months. Acute pain is temporary pain that is in response to an injury or ailment, but the pain subsides when the root cause of the injury is resolved. Because chronic pain lasts so long, the pain receptors throughout the body are being constantly triggered which the leads to change in the way in the body processes pain. The nervous system becomes sensitized and the perception of pain is heightened.

There are four primary types of chronic pain:

    • Nociceptive pain is felt in the external and internal soft tissue. Examples include headaches, fibromyalgia, arthritis, or endometriosis.
    • Neuropathic pain is caused by nerves when they are not functioning normally and send spontaneous pain signals to the spinal cord and brain. Examples include phantom limb pain, sciatica, and diabetic neuropathy.
    • Psychogenic pain is pain caused by a psychological disorder such as anxiety or depression. the body has physical complications like fatigue and muscle aches.
    • Idiopathic pain has no known physical or psychological origin which makes treatment difficult. This pain is more common in people who have pre-existing pain disorders like fibromyalgia or TMJ.

Roughly 20% of people worldwide and in the U.S. experience chronic pain and it is most prevalent among women. Treatment varies depending on the type of pain being experienced, but CBD has shown promise at alleviating symptoms.

How CBD Can Help with Chronic Pain

chronicpainicon_red-2There is evidence that CBD is an effective treatment for patients suffering from chronic inflammation and neuropathic pain. There is little known about how CBD interacts with glycine receptors that run throughout the spinal chords.  Studies have shown that CBD may directly regulate pain at this important target in the body.

CBD users have stated relief associated with chronic pain of all different forms without an apparent tolerance build up lowering efficacy.  When you take CBD, it will attach to the affected nerve pain receptor and reduce the pain that you feel.

I am typically skeptical of natural remedies, yet was shocked when I found that CBD offered noticeable relief from both. Now, I use CBD sublingually on a regular basis and supplement with vape and edibles as needed. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm a true believer."

"I'm typically skeptical of natural remedies but when someone gave me CBD as a gift, I didn't think it hurt to try. I am in good health generally so wasn't sure how it would manifest, but I've found it to help with my sleep considerably. I have had the deepest and most restful sleep, but with no lagging drowsiness and am able to get up on a dime. CBD is now an integral part of my health regimen."

    FAQ’S

Will I become addicted to CBD?

In humans, CBD exhibits no effects indicative of any abuse or dependence potential. This has been recognized by the DEA and the reason we are seeing increased research and interest in the chemical compound.

    Does CBD have any interactions?

CBD is generally well tolerated with a good health profile. Reported adverse effects may be as a result of drug interactions between CBD and patients’ existing medications. Please consult with your physician before taking CBD.

CBD inhibits the cytochrome p450 enzyme which helps to metabolize many drugs. Compounds in grapefruit inhibit the same enzyme group which is why physicians advise patients not to eat grapefruit shortly before or after taking medication. The effect CBD may have by inhibiting the cytochrome p450 enzyme is it may increase or decrease the effects of other drugs. Please consult with your doctor before using CBD.

What are the benefits of CBD?

CBD has been demonstrated as an effective treatment of epilepsy in several clinical trials, with one pure CBD product (Epidiolex®) currently in Phase III trials. There is also preliminary evidence that CBD may be a useful treatment for a number of other medical conditions.
